Femooi
Redesigned the mobile app and onboarding experience for Femooi, a series of Bluetooth-connected smart skincare and haircare devices delivering personalized treatment at home.
The redesign closed the gap between the physical device and the digital interface, and earned the iF Design Award 2024 for a cohesive device-app experience.
Femooi ships a series of smart skincare and haircare devices connected via Bluetooth, designed to deliver personalized treatment at home. I led the redesign of the mobile app and onboarding experience, treating the device and the interface as one unified product rather than two separate surfaces.
Through usability testing, I found that users struggled not with individual features, but with the gap between the physical device and the digital interface, especially during setup and early use.
What I redesigned
- Animated setup tutorials to guide pairing and calibration, turning the first-use moment into a guided experience instead of a guessing game.
- A 3D avatar and contextual hints that support step-by-step usage and give users a clear mental model of where the device should go and what it is doing.
- Reorganized information architecture and visual grouping to reduce cognitive load across treatment modes, history, and device status.
- More intuitive feedback loops between physical interaction and digital response, so every tap on the device has a matching cue on screen.
Project highlights
- Designed a cohesive device-app experience recognized with the 2024 iF Design Award.
- Redesigned onboarding to bridge the gap between hardware and mobile experience, so new users get to their first successful treatment faster.
- Simplified the information hierarchy to reduce perceived complexity without removing advanced functionality.
